North Tyneside SCITT offers primary school centred initial teacher training specialising in the (3-7 years) or (5-11 years) age phases. This post-graduate training route will equip you with the knowledge, skills and understanding to become a highly effective primary school teacher.

Graduates are awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Primary, validated by Northumbria University, and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

A school-centred programme is the best way to train if you’re looking for lots of practical experience and want to benefit from the expertise of teachers and mentors on the ground. This highly successful programme combines high quality extensive classroom experience with expert guidance and is officially rated as outstanding by Ofsted (2015/16).

For the duration of the programme, you’ll have a base at the Langdale Centre in Wallsend - North Tyneside Council’s professional development centre - where you’ll be mixing with, and learning from, experienced and respected early years and primary professionals.

You are also guaranteed placements in our partnership schools in North Tyneside, where you’ll get practical, hands-on classroom experience and train alongside some really inspiring teachers.

You’ll be part of a small cohort which means we can give you personalised support tailored to your needs, and really nurture your development.
